Political Career
He association with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami began in 1979 when he joined as an ordinary supporter. Due to his dedication and commitment to the party, he was elected a member of the Shura in the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Majlis in 1989. Due to his leadership qualities and contribution, he later assumed the role of Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e. Islami, where he held a prominent position.
Arrest
On March 21, 2010, Bangladesh Tariqat Federation Secretary General Syed Rezaul Haque Chandpuri filed a case against Allama Delawar Hossain Sayeedi and five other Jamaat leaders for hurting religious sentiments. In July 2009, Saidi Zia faced a ban imposed by immigration officials at Zia International Airport, preventing him from traveling abroad. After that, he challenged this ban by filing a writ petition in the High Court. During the proceedings, the Attorney General said that during the 1971 conflict, Saeedi opposed the independence of Bangladesh. The attorney general argued that allowing Saeedee to travel abroad could potentially undermine the government's efforts to prosecute war crimes committed during that period. Human Rights Watch has criticized the conduct of the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) and raised concerns about the lack of defense and witness protection. Defense lawyers and witnesses reported harassment and threats from state officials and the police. In 2012, Saeedi suffered further setbacks as he suffered personal tragedies, including the death of his eldest son and mother, as well as a heart attack, which delayed his trial by a month.
Controversy
In 2004, Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was added to the US Terrorist Screening Center's (TSC) no-fly list, aimed at preventing extremism and terrorism suspects from flying into the country. Nevertheless, Saeedi traveled to the UK in July 2006 to address rallies in London and Luton, his entry being granted by the Foreign Office. However, his visit caused controversy among many British members of Parliament. Emails leaked to The Times revealed reports of violence caused by Saeedi's supporters during previous visits to the UK. In July 2006, British journalist Martin Bright wrote "Who Speaks for Muslims?" released a documentary titled which featured Saeedee and characterized as holding extreme views. Saidi has a significant following in the British Bangladeshi community and was invited to speak at an East London mosque, with Muhammad Abdul Bari, then Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain, seconding his invitation.
